The Life and Times of an Arsenal FC Manager – An INTRO

Herein lies the journals of my triumphs and tribulations, perils and prospects, in the high-stakes, take-no-prisoners world of Football Manager, where many a greater man than I have fallen to the clutches of harsh times.

Being marooned in Canada as I am, I am utilizing Worldwide Soccer Manager (WSM), which is really Football Manager (FM) in all but name. The version is 2006, for the very simple reason that it is the last version that will ever be made with Thierry Henry leading the front line at Arsenal.

Yes, I’m a huge Arsenal fan – having been born in London, England, I consider the Gunners my hometown club, and it’s an honor to manage them (being the first Nigerian manager in English top flight also has its appeals).

Being a bit of a time capsule, let me remind you of where the world was when I took over the reins of Arsenal Football Club. Abramovich and his billions had shaken up the league 2 seasons earlier, and José (‘The Special One’) Mourinho had just led London rivals Chelsea to their first league triumph in 50 years. The Gunners, however, had seen their most impressive achievement (the season of ‘The Invincibles’, 49 games unbeaten in the league) brought to a crashing halt and settled for the FA Cup, setting them up on a collision course with behemoths Chelsea in the season curtain-opener the Community Shield…
